Chapter 12, Cause and Effect

Writing a Cause and Effect Essay
The writing a cause and effect essay is to analyze and explain the causes, the effects, or both the causes and the effects of some fact or circumstance. Cause and effect essays are concerned with why things happen (causes) and what happens as a result (effects). The most important things I’d understood are to know readers, to think logically, to distinguish between cause and effect. To determine causes, we can ask, "Why did this happen?" To identify effects, ask, "What happened because of this?" One more thing is to evaluate the effectiveness of a cause and effect essay by asking the following questions: What are the causes? What are the effects? Which should be emphasized? Are there single or multiple causes? Are there single or multiple effects? Is a chain reaction involved?
